Journey Through Israel’s Jewish Past

A 7-day Jewish Heritage tour to Israel is an ideal time to explore the Holy Land in-depth. You will reach its biblical sites and modern-era destinations, absorbing Israel in all dimensions. From the Golan Heights to the Dead Sea and biblical Jerusalem to Innovation centers at Tel-Aviv. This tour will unfold many of Israel’s known highlights and some of its best-hidden gems.

Day 1 – Caesarea and Atlit

Welcome to Israel! After assistance with passport control and baggage claim, your journey begins along the Mediterranean coast. The first stop is Caesarea, once a great Roman metropolis. Here you will discover the impressive visitor center, walk through the remains of Herod’s grand harbor, and explore the city that once hosted gladiators, traders, and governors. If time allows, continue to the Atlit Detainee Camp, where in the 1940s the British detained Jewish immigrants seeking to reach the Land of Israel,

Overnight: Tiberias

Day 2 – Jewish Spirituality in the Galilee

Begin the day in Safed, the mystical city that once flourished as a center of Kabbalah and today thrives as a colony for Jewish artists. Stroll its cobblestoned streets, browse through its galleries, visit Ha’ari HaKadosh Synagogue, and see where Rabbi Yosef Karo composed the Shulchan Aruch. At nearby Meiron lies the tomb of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai (Rashbi), one of the most venerated rabbis in Jewish tradition. Returning to the Jordan Valley, the day can conclude with fun on the water—either kayaking along the Jordan River or enjoying water sports on the shores of Tiberias.

Day 3 – Explore the Golan Heights

Ascend into the dramatic landscapes of the Golan Heights and reach the summit of Mount Bental, where you can peer across northern Israel and deep into Syria while exploring an unmanned IDF bunker. Continue to the Valley of Tears, site of a legendary 1973 Yom Kippur War battle where a vastly outnumbered Israeli tank force held back a massive Syrian advance. For adventure, take an ATV ride along the Syrian border, combining nature, history, and geopolitics. Pause for a traditional meal and warm hospitality in a Druze village, and then drive to the ancient site of Gamla, where 2,000 years ago Jewish defenders fell to the Romans. Today, the site blends ruins, eagle nesting cliffs, and sweeping views of the Sea of Galilee.

Overnight: Tiberias

Day 4 – Traverse the Land and Greet Jerusalem

Your morning starts with an optional sail on the Sea of Galilee from Tiberias to Kibbutz Ginosar, and then visit Magdala, where a first-century synagogue and a mysterious decorated stone still puzzle scholars. In Tiberias, pause at the tomb of Maimonides and learn about discoveries possibly linked to the Sanhedrin in both ancient Tiberias and Hamath Tiberias. Next, drive south past the Kinneret farm and cemetery, birthplace of kibbutz life and the pioneering movement, and continue to Beit She’an for a typical Israeli barbecue lunch and a tour of the remarkable Roman remains. By sunset, you will reach Jerusalem, pausing at the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view and a moving “Shehecheyanu” blessing.

Overnight: Jerusalem

Day 5 – Unfolding Biblical Jerusalem

Explore the City of David, the oldest part of Jerusalem, beginning with a 3D movie that sets the stage for your journey into its ancient remains. Descend into the water system and wade through Hezekiah’s Tunnel, emerging at the Pool of Siloam, an essential site in the city’s history. Next, ascend through the Herodian drainage channel to the Southern Wall Archaeological Park, where the steps and streets of the Temple Mount still speak of ancient pilgrimages. At the Davidson Center, rich exhibits illuminate Jerusalem’s sacred past. After lunch in the Jewish Quarter, visit landmarks such as the Hurva Synagogue and the Burnt House, and browse for Judaica along the Cardo. Conclude the day in prayer and reflection at the Western Wall Plaza, Judaism’s holiest accessible site.
