Day 2 – Masada and the Dead Sea
Start the day with a drive into the Judean Desert, stopping at the Sea Level sign where you can take a short camel ride for a fun photo opportunity. Continue to Masada, the desert fortress built by King Herod and remembered for the dramatic last stand of the Jewish rebels nearly two thousand years ago. Explore the palaces, storerooms, and fortifications while considering the tragic yet heroic story of this site.
For lunch, enjoy an authentic kibbutz experience at Ein Gedi, where you may also stroll through the community’s renowned botanical gardens. Alternatively, you can choose to dine and relax at one of the Dead Sea hotels, combining your meal with a swim in the mineral-rich waters. On the return journey to Jerusalem, pause at Qumran to view the caves where the famous Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. If time permits, stop at the Tekhelet Factory to see how the biblical fringes, or tsitsit, are uniquely produced.
