Jewish Themed 2-day private Tour of the Galilee & Golan

Jewish Heights

This two-day journey through the Galilee and the Golan Heights combines the Jewish past and the modern thriving revival. From catacombs and synagogues to the establishment of the State of Israel, every site reveals another layer of Jewish presence in the northern landscape.

Day 1: Echoes of the Mishnah and the Mystics

Crawl into Beit Shearim Catacombs

Begin at Beit Shearim, the famed necropolis where Rabbi Judah the Prince and other sages were laid to rest. Crawl into the subterranean catacombs, whose stone-carved sarcophagi bear Jewish symbols alongside Hellenistic motifs. This unique mix reflects Jewish cultural dialogue in the Roman era. The visit also includes the area identified by archaeologists as a possible site where the Sanhedrin once convened.

Explore Jewish Heritage of Sepphoris

Continue to Sepphoris, a city tied to Rabbi Judah the Prince, who codified the Mishnah here, shaping Jewish law for centuries. Archaeological finds reveal a thriving Jewish presence alongside Greco Roman influence. The ancient synagogue preserves a mosaic floor with surprising artistic depictions, including biblical figures and motifs.

Tour Safed and its Synagogues

Arrive in Safed, a mountaintop city infused with mysticism and spiritual intensity, central to the Kabbalistic renaissance of the 16th century. Visit the Yosef Karo Synagogue, where the great scholar composed the Shulchan Aruch, and the HaAri HaKadosh Synagogue, tied to the teachings of Kabbalah. Alongside these sacred sites, the Old City is filled with Jewish-themed art galleries, where artists draw inspiration from Torah, mysticism, and the Galilean landscape. Together, these elements create a unique blend of spirituality, history, and artistic creativity.

Day 2 – Heights of Spirit and Memory

Hike Gamla

gamlaBegin the day at Gamla, the dramatic site of Jewish resistance during the Great Revolt against Rome (66-70 CE). Perched above rugged cliffs overlooking the Sea of Galilee, this city became known as the Masada of the North for its heroic last stand. Walk among basalt stone ruins while hearing the tragic story of faith and courage against overwhelming, oppressive Roman forces. The surrounding nature reserve, with soaring vultures and wild landscapes, frames the historical tale in timeless beauty.

Ascend Mount Bental

bental-UNNext, ascend by car to Mount Bental, one of the Golan Heights’ most commanding volcanic peaks, offering breathtaking views across the region. From its summit, see into Syria while learning about the modern strategic importance of this rugged land. Bunkers and minefields from past conflicts tell the story of former battles in Israel’s northern frontier.

Did you Know?

The Golan Heights were formed by a series of Volcanic eruptions nearly a million years ago. Today, the Volcano tops are Israeli military posts. In the caldera of one of the volcanos there is even a kibbutz.

Visit the 1973 “Valley of Tears” Battle Site

oz77-tank-display-golan-heights-valley-of-tearsContinue to the “Valley of Tears”, site of the most dramatic tank battle of the Yom Kippur War. Here, on October 6th, 1973, outnumbered Israeli tank crews held the line against a massive Syrian assault, preventing the Golan from being overrun. The guide will recount stories of bravery, sacrifice, and desperate determination during those crucial days. A striking display shows former Syrian tank facing an Israeli tank, symbolizing the confrontation and its lasting impact.  This place transforms modern history into a living lesson of bravery and resilience.

Experience a Druze Lunch (Kosher)

Pause in a Druze village to enjoy a kosher meal, experiencing both hospitality and rich culinary traditions of the community. The encounter offers cultural insight into one of Israel’s unique minorities who share the Golan landscape with Jews. Guests taste local flavors while hearing about Druze history, traditions, and loyalty within the modern state.

Tour Biblical Tel Dan

Conclude at Tel Dan, a lush oasis where springs feed one of the Jordan River’s main sources. Walk through a biblical-era city gate dating back to Abraham’s time, the oldest archway recorded in human history. Explore also the remains of a cultic high place from the time of King Jeroboam, where, according to scripture, a Calf was worshipped. Ending here provides a meaningful link between the ancient foundations of faith and the ongoing life of Judaism.
