Day 2: Golan Heights History and Nature
Start the day at Tel Dan, where shaded trails follow streams and springs in a lush nature reserve. The site also features remarkable archaeological remains, including Israelite city gates and a high place that testify to the kingdom’s biblical past. Continue to Caesarea Philippi, also known as Banias, where dramatic cliffs and flowing waters frame ancient shrines dedicated to the god Pan. The site later became important in Christian tradition, linked to Peter’s confession of faith.
Lunch will be a cultural experience, featuring a visit to a Druze hospitality setting, where you’ll enjoy homemade dishes, warm conversation, and insight into the traditions of this unique religious community. Enjoy authentic flavors while learning about Druze heritage and values of loyalty and hospitality. In the afternoon, visit the Valley of Tears, where Israeli forces fought a dramatic tank battle during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The battlefield memorial tells a story of courage, sacrifice, and survival. Nearby, Mount Bental offers commanding views across the Golan Heights, the Syrian border, and the Hula Valley.
