This 2-day private Bar-Mitzvah tour takes you through the Galilee’s ancient Jewish heritage and the dramatic landscapes of the Golan Heights. You will explore sacred tombs, ancient synagogues, and former battle sites that connect deeply both to Jewish heritage and modern history. You will also enjoy thrilling outdoor adventures, unique workshops, and encounters with stories of bravery and faith. The experience balances reflection and joy while celebrating in the beauty of northern Israel.
The journey begins at Beth Shearim, an ancient necropolis where Jewish sages were buried almost two thousand years ago. Walking through the vast underground catacombs, you will see stone-carved chambers, intricate menorah engravings, and inscriptions in Hebrew and Greek. This site reflects well Jewish communities during the late Roman era and their devotion to preserving identity and tradition while some Roman-Greco culture.
Next, you will visit Sepphoris, a city once considered the “ornament of all Galilee.” Here, Jewish leaders and scholars lived during the time of the Mishnah. Walk among restored streets, a Roman theater, and review beautiful mosaics, including the famous “Mona Lisa of the Galilee.” Archaeological finds suggest strong Jewish presence and influence, showing how Jewish life thrived alongside Roman culture.
In the afternoon, you will explore Safed, the mystical city known as the birthplace of Kabbalah. Walking through its winding alleys, you will visit historic synagogues where famous rabbis once prayed and taught. The Ari Ashkenazi Synagogue, with its ornate ark, and the Abuhav Synagogue, with its rich decorations, reflect Safed’s spiritual atmosphere. Along the way, you will be able to browse art galleries filled with Judaica and meet artists who carry on the city’s creative traditions.
Ascending the Golan Heights, your day begins on Mount Bental, a dormant volcano that offers sweeping views of Northern Israel and across the border into Syria. From its summit, you will walk through old army bunkers that tell the story of past battles and hear about the strategic importance of this region.
From Kibbutz Merom Golan at the foot of Mount Bental, you will set off on an ATV tour that takes you along rugged trails near the border with Syria. Riding through orchards, dirt paths and former Syrian army bases, you will feel the excitement of exploring the landscape up close. Your guide will point out historic battlefields and explain the unique geography of the Golan. This unique activity adds energy and thrill to your Bar-Mitzvah journey, blending adventure with living history.
At midday, you are welcomed into a Druze village to experience the legendary hospitality of this unique community. You will sit down to a traditional (kosher) home-cooked meal, filled with aromatic dishes, fresh herbs, and rich flavors that reflect centuries of tradition. Your hostess will share stories of Druze culture, faith, and life in the Golan, offering you a meaningful encounter. If you wish, you may also join a cooking class, where you will learn to prepare Druze dishes alongside your hostess, turning lunch into a hands-on cultural celebration.
To conclude your day, you may choose a special hands-on activity. At a De Karina chocolate workshop, you will create your own sweet treats while learning the craft of fine chocolate-making. Alternatively, you may visit a shofar workshop, where the artisan will show you how the ancient ram’s horn is shaped and sounded. Both options give you a chance to engage directly with tradition and creativity, ending your tour with a personal and joyful experience.
