Christian-Themed 2-Day Private Tour of Jerusalem

Pilgrimage Journey

This private two-day Christian tour of Jerusalem explores the city where faith, history, and archaeology are deeply intertwined. The journey highlights sites mentioned in the New Testament, connecting Gospel events with remarkable archaeological discoveries.

Day 1: Pilgrimage Through the Old City

Visit the Holy Sepulchre and Via Dolorosa

Step into the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City, exploring the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, revered as Jesus’ crucifixion, burial, and resurrection site. Wander through its chapels and shrines while the guide provides detailed historical and archaeological explanations. Next, follow the Via Dolorosa, tracing the traditional path of Jesus’ final walk, known as “the Stations of the Cross”. Pause at key points along the route reflecting on the spiritual significance of the events.

Discover the Pools of Bethesda and the Western Wall

Above the site rises the Church of St. Anne, a twelfth-century Crusader structure, considered one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in the Holy Land. Continue to the Western Wall, one of Judaism’s most sacred sites, where centuries of prayers are inscribed in the stones. The guide will highlight its historical and religious significance and explain some of the local rituals.

Explore Mount Zion’s Sacred Sites

Visit the traditional Room of the Last Supper, whose architecture reflects a unique early Gothic style. Nearby stands the Church of the Dormition, commemorating Mary’s resting place before her assumption. The site is also associated with the Pentecost, remembered as the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples.

Optional Visit to St. Peter in Gallicantu

The church marks the traditional site of Caiaphas’ house, where Jesus was held and interrogated before trial. Below the sanctuary are rock-hewn chambers and ancient steps, possibly from the Second Temple period. The site also boasts a detailed model of Jerusalem from the Byzantine period.

Day 2: Temple Mount, City of David, and Mount of Olives

Enter the Temple Mount and Southern Wall Archaeological Site

Although a Sacred Muslim esplanade today, your guide will point to the vast staircases that led to its sacred precincts in the time of Jesus. Next, descend to the Southern Wall Archaeological Park, where remarkable discoveries shed light on daily life in the Second Temple era. Here, visitors encounter the monumental flight of steps leading to the Temple, most likely ascended by Jesus himself.

Walk the City of David and Pool of Siloam

Stroll through the narrow passages where archaeologists unearthed fortifications, water tunnels, and monumental stone structures. Conclude at the Pool of Siloam, rediscovered in 2004, which was part of Jerusalem’s elaborate water system. This site is also remembered as the setting of Jesus’ miracle, where He restored sight to a man born blind, adding spiritual meaning to the archaeological remains.

Enter the Garden of Gethsemane and Mount of Olives Viewpoint

Crossing the Kidron valley, reach the Garden of Gethsemane, where ancient olive trees witness Jesus’ final hours. The guide will highlight key biblical narratives tied to the site and its main archaeological discoveries. Then ascend to the Mount of Olives for panoramic views of the Old City, including the golden Dome of the Rock. Pause to reflect on the spiritual significance of the vista while learning about centuries of conflicts, warfare, and pilgrimage.

Visit the Pater Noster and Chapel of the Ascension

Continue to the Pater Noster Church, built over Byzantine remains where tradition locates Jesus teaching the Lord’s Prayer to His disciples, as recorded in the Gospels. Its cloisters display the prayer in many languages, symbolizing the spread of Christianity to every nation. Nearby stands the Chapel of the Ascension, recalling the Gospel accounts of Jesus rising to heaven before his disciples. The Crusader-era octagonal structure preserves one of Christianity’s earliest commemorated sites, first venerated in the fourth century.

Conclude at the Israel Museum

End the tour at the Israel Museum, where archaeology and history bring Jerusalem’s past into focus. View the ossuary of Caiaphas, the high priest connected with Jesus’ trial, and the Pilate Inscription, the only direct archaeological evidence of Pontius Pilate. A large model of Second Temple Jerusalem reconstructs the city as it appeared in the first century. See also the Dead Sea Scrolls, ancient manuscripts that illuminate the religious world from which Christianity emerged.
